The freely available Open Source version of Password Safe can be downloaded from this web link.(you could also choose run and not download the file if you just want to automatically install the program.) Once downloaded Password Safe, click on the pwsafe-3.27.exe file to install the program. I'll start by explaining on how to find, download and install Password Safe for Windows. Read on and I will explain to you more about PasswordSafe, how to get it and a bit how to use it. By portable I mean that you will be able to access your passwords from almost any computer or mobile device you own, including your iPhone, iPad, Android Phone, and computer! Further you can organize your passwords into file folders by type of password. And with its intuitive interface you will be up and running in minutes."īasically Password Safe will allow you to save all of your passwords into an encrypted "safe" file that is even very portable if you want it to be. You can choose to store all your passwords in a single encrypted master password list (an encrypted password database), or use multiple databases to further organize your passwords (work and home, for example). "Using Password Safe you can organize your passwords using your own customizable references-for example, by user ID, category, web site, or location. Once stored, your user names and passwords are just a few clicks away. This quote is from the SourceForge website, " Password Safe allows you to manage your old passwords and to easily and quickly generate, store, organize, retrieve, and use complex new passwords, using password policies that you control. Just make CERTAIN that you choose a strong safe combination to open your safe and strong dropbox password! Now grant it, you STILL have to remember a single safe combination password for Password Safe in order to open up your safe and enter your DropBox credentials as necessary once to setup the programs with my solution, but it is far better than having to remember sometimes hundreds of passwords. My INEXPENSIVE solution to this problem(meaning free) is an open source program called Password Safe along with DropBox. How do you remember them all? The truth is, you can not! I never had a problem accessing their stuff.lol.Īnd still users are faced with the issue that not all sites let you set your own password type and require all sorts of stupid combinations for your password. Just make sure no one gets ahold of your base password though! My users were notorious for still writing down the base password and posting it on a sticky note on their monitor. That way they could have a different yet easy to remember password for each site. For example if your base password is dog8kitty, you would use yahoodog8kitty or dog8kittyyahoo for your yahoo password. I do not like doing this at all! I try to use a different password for every site I visit and it is a good habit and practice that I reccomend for EVERY person on the Internet.īack in the day, I used to reccomend to my staff members that if they really had a hard time remembering their many passwords, they could pick any base eight to ten character non dictionary word or phrase and than attach the name of the website to the front or the end of it. It is getting out of hand! Lots of sites allow logon using a Facebook, Google or other common password service. Lately every single web site that I have been visiting has required a password.

Similarly, sinuous routes through the garden afforded a “continual change of scenery.” In reference to his picturesque plantations, Downing claimed that the effect depended upon “ intricacy and irregularity.” įig. At Mount Vernon, Manasseh Cutler reported in 1802 that the picturesque effect was enhanced by “coming out of a thick wood, and the sudden and unexpected manner in which it was seen,” underscoring the importance of surprise to the picturesque effect ( view text). These characteristics were defined by the theorists Whately and William Gilpin, whose treatises were well known in America. The chief characteristics of the picturesque were surprise and variety, in contrast to the effects of terror and awe associated with the sublime. The goal of the picturesque was to re-create in the garden the experience of the natural landscape. In addition, in many cases the term “picturesque” served as an effective expression meaning simply an attractive or pleasing scene, as in the case of William Bartram’s romantic and evocative descriptions of his travels in the south (1792) ( view text). It is evident that during their historical development, both senses of this term, as either a style or a visual effect, were frequently used simultaneously. Downing later echoed Loudon when he wrote that “the picturesque is nature or art obeying the same laws rudely” (1849) ( view text). This use of the term was used frequently in travelers’ descriptions of towns, settlements, or gardens. Loudon’s 1826 claim that a view was picturesque if “it would form a tolerable picture” when painted ( view text). The picturesque also came to be understood as a visual effect achieved by the incorporation of natural and designed landscape elements into a prospect or view. The first referred to a garden style with specific compositional components detailed by theorists such as Thomas Whately and A. In American landscape discourse, the term “picturesque” had two important uses. The picturesque was at its height in Britain around the turn of the 19th century, though its development began much earlier and it is still in use today. The picturesque is an aesthetic category derived from the idea of designing landscapes to look like pictures. Downing, A Treatise on the Theory and Practice of Landscape Gardening, 4th ed. 1, Anonymous, “View of a Picturesque farm ( ferme ornée),” in A. This fact reveals our culture’s fatuities about the self-made as sentimental treacle. Her story is equally illuminating about our society’s attitude toward inherited wealth: we glorify the self-made and mock those with “trust funds,” but Sorokin would have had so many more opportunities had she been born into millions and millions of dollars, as she claimed. In the modern world, birth isn’t supposed to determine our access to opportunities and money, yet it certainly does. That’s just what Anna Sorokin was hoping to be. The culture industry normally peddles narratives of hard work, of massive success by little people who come from nothing. People follow Delvey’s courtroom outfits on Instagram and wear “Fake German Heiress” T-shirts because Delvey exposed the hollow mythologies around wealth in the capitalist system. Who deserves wealth? No one does and yet we all do, and that’s why we love Anna Delvey. But by focusing on conventional lessons and individual dramas, Inventing Anna mutes the most irresistible dimension of Delvey’s story - namely, the moral ambiguity at its heart. At one point the reporter character - Vivian Kent, based on Jessica Pressler - says Anna’s story is about “identity under capitalism or something,” which is funny, and the one moment in which the series commendably mocks its own attempted depth. These contrived narratives miss the point. And let’s not forget the other fake bit of profundity: Who is authentic anyway in this Era of Social Media? Everyone’s hustling (lots of tedious moral hand-wringing about how the lawyer and the journalist are using Anna to advance their own careers, clichés about how everyone in New York is on the make). It’s tough for young women to break into finance. Even more misguidedly, however, the series tries on multiple boring insights. Normal professionals with normal problems in normal apartments just can’t compete for our interest with Delvey’s adventures in attempted financial fraud, Balenciaga, Morocco, or Ibiza. Unfortunately, Inventing Anna focuses too much on the struggles of a boring New York City–based female journalist (sorry, my people are hardly a riveting or underexposed demographic). The Fyre Festival scammer, Billy McFarland, really was her roommate for a while. She did party with Martin Shkreli, the depraved pharma bro. She really did come close to getting these big loans. While the series is lightly fictionalized - a few characters are composites, some incidents made up - all the best and least believable parts are true. She used a voice distortion app and a burner phone to impersonate her “family banker,” an apparently fictitious German. Best of all, Delvey came close to convincing major hedge funds and banks to invest millions of dollars in her start-up, an exclusive international art space and social club (think Soho House plus art and culture, or Fotografiska without the proles). As Anna Delvey, she successfully created a moneyed vibe. Real finance capitalists thought they’d make money off her (and some thought they’d become even richer by marrying her). Rich people liked her because she seemed to have social capital. As Pressler noted in her New York magazine article, Anna Sorokin wasn’t unusually pretty, charming, or even nice. She had a sense of entitlement without the title. She stays in some of New York’s fanciest hotels without paying. She uses a real heiress’s yacht without permission. The even bigger source of delight here, however, is Anna Delvey’s chutzpah. Inventing Anna features some of the best clothes ever seen in a TV series, better even than Sex and the City. She was even taken seriously as a client by major banks and hedge funds, including a fund called Fortress. Inventing Anna, a lightly fictionalized TV series based on Jessica Pressler’s long New York magazine cover story, chronicles the rise and fall of Anna Delvey, née Anna Sorokin, a young middle-class, Russian-born woman who pretended to be a German heiress and lived large for about four years, hobnobbing with Manhattan’s rich and famous. The moment captures instantly the amusement and admiration behind the public response to this real-life story. In the Netflix series Inventing Anna, just after a magazine publishes the dramatic story of Anna Sorokin’s impressive fraud, a woman walks out of a store wearing a T-shirt that says “Fake German Heiress.” Because who wouldn’t want to be a fake German heiress? Typically the materials should have a low work function and are therefore prone to thermionic emission. Photocathodes can be made of a variety of materials based on the desired properties. These electrons are directed by a focusing electrode toward the electron multiplier, where electrons are multiplied by the process of secondary emission. Electrons are produced as a consequence of the photoelectric effect. Incident photons strike a photocathode material that is present as a thin deposit on the entry window of the device. They detect light and multiply the current produced by the incident light by as much as 100 million times (160 dB), enabling individual photons to be detected when the incident flux of light is very low. Photomultipliers are vacuum tubes that are extremely sensitive to light. At the end of the line, the charges from all the different picture elements (pixels) can be converted to electrical signals ( 230–232). The packets of charge are not initially converted to an electrical signal, but rather moved from cell to cell by the coupling and decoupling of potential wells within the semiconductor that makes up the CCD. A CCD generally has an array of cells to capture a light image via the photoelectric effect. 13.03.12.2 Charge-Coupled DeviceĪ charge-coupled device (CCD) is a metal oxide semiconductor chip sensor that transports electrically charged signals. Cadmium sulfoselenide (CdS) is a photoconductive material commonly used in photoresistors ( 226–229). A high intensity of light incident on the surface will cause a lower resistance, whereas a lower intensity of light will cause higher resistance. The resistance generated varies depending on the light striking at his surface. 13.03.12.1 Photocell or PhotoresistorĪ photocell or photoresistor is a sensor that changes its resistance when light shines on it. There are many ways to detect light, and based on the working principle, light sensors can be of different types. They are very simple and inexpensive, allowing their inclusion in a multitude of consumer products, including night lights, cell phones, burglar alarms, garage door openers, bar code readers, etc. Devices that include these sensors have many uses in scientific applications, but they are also found in items that people encounter each day. Spain, in Comprehensive Materials Processing, 2014 13.03.12 Light Sensing MaterialsĪ light sensor, as its name suggests, is a device that is used to detect light. The main classes of photocells are photoresistors, photovoltaic materials, and photoemitters.Ī. A few devices, notably some silicon photodiodes, have their peak sensitivity for the same colour as the peak sensitivity of the human eye. For many types of sensors, the peak sensitivity may be at either the red or the violet end of the visible spectrum, and some sensors will have their peak response for invisible radiation either in the infrared or the ultraviolet. For the range of wavelengths used in photocells, however, you will often see the approximate figure of 1 mW/cm 2 = 200 lux used.Īnother important point relating to the use of photocells is that they are not uniformly sensitive at all visible colours. The use of milliwatts per square centimetre looks more comprehensible to anyone brought up with electronics, but there is no simple direct conversion between power per square centimetre and lux unless other quantities such as spectral composition (colour balance) of light are maintained constant. A value of 1000 lux is the level of illumination required for close inspection work and the reading of fine print on this scale, direct sunlight registers at about 100 000 lux. The lux figures for illumination are those obtained by using photometers, and a figure of 50 lux corresponds to a ‘normal’ domestic lighting level good enough for reading a newspaper. The sensitivity of photocells can be quoted in either of two ways, either as the electrical output at a given illumination, using illumination figures in units of lux, often 50 lux and 1000 lux, or as a figure of power falling on the cell per square centimetre of sensitive area, a quantity known as irradiance. In addition, the unit energy depends on the frequency of the wave. Light radiation carries energy, and the amount of energy carried depends on the square of the amplitude of the wave. Light is an electromagnetic radiation of the same kind as radio waves, but with a very much shorter wavelength and hence a much higher frequency. Ian Sinclair, in Passive Components for Circuit Design, 2001 PhotocellsĪ photocell is a light-to-electrical transducer, and there are many different types available. AI Clear is still in the program! Definitely one of my top 5 plugins ever! (And that is saying something for me!) In my opinion, used with Precision Detail (which is also included in the program), they create the most incredible detail. They now have official Effect Layers in the program and no longer is an Apply button needed before you add other filters! Best news and brings Studio 2 up to date with all the other big guys out there.Otherwise there is now just a one time payment and Topaz Studio 2 will contain all the filters that were available in the original Topaz Studio, which as I see it, is a good deal anyway you do it. (For what was used in the image above, check Image 1 Info at end of blog.)įirst off: who qualifies for a free update? So lets get started and dive deeper into what is going on with this software update. They now have a much better way of adding filters – no more Apply step – just filters stacking as Effect Layers, a lot like the other plug-ins have begun doing. I have been spending my time just getting up to speed on what they have changed in the interface. But having worked with the program on a few images, it is really good and a much needed update. Since I have always been a huge Topaz fan, I knew this would be a good update, and to be honest, when I first heard about it I had my doubts. Well I missed last week due to some traveling and it was a busy one for Topaz (see my Tidbits Blog sidebar for website link). WHAT ABOUT THIS TOPAZ STUDIO 2 UPDATE? NOT BAD! In 2007, the average internet connection speed in the United States was just 3.6 Mbps. Just because you’re able to achieve your maximum download and upload speed in the living room doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be able to achieve it in, let’s say, the kitchen. Optimize your network: Most importantly, you should perform regular internet speed tests using the best internet speed test services listed further down in this article to learn more about your network so you can optimize it for top performance.By using an internet speed test during a free one-month trial of an internet connection, you can easily evaluate whether the service lives up to its promises and choose a different one if it doesn’t. Often, they bury the real minimum download and upload speed deep in a novel-length contract, which most customers won’t ever read in its entirety. Select the best internet service provider: It’s very easy for internet service providers to promise fast internet speeds and low latency without guaranteeing anything.By performing an internet speed test, you can ensure that you’re getting what you’re paying for and have concrete evidence in case you’re not. Even if you select a reputable internet service provider, you might end up experiencing local connectivity issues. Get what you’re paying for: Internet service providers fiercely compete for customers, and their marketing departments are known for promising more than they can deliver. Here are our top three reasons why you should regularly test your internet speed: However, we do live in a world where increasingly many activities depend on a fast internet connection, and where internet service providers often promise one thing and deliver something completely different. Unfortunately, we don’t live in such a world. In a perfect world, your internet connection would always be at its top speed, and you would never experience any slowdowns and connectivity issues. Your download speed doesn’t determine just how long it takes you to download files, but also how long it takes websites to load because every website is really just a collection of various assets which must be downloaded for the website to load correctly. Ping is not too important when browsing the web or downloading files from the internet, but it’s critical when streaming audio and video or playing games. Just like when testing download speed, multiple connections are typically established to increase the accuracy of the test.

Kaki Zell - Vice President of Sales, Marketing, eCommerce at Legs-4-Life LLC Kaki holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Management from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Keep these five factors in mind as you shop, and you’ll be sure to make the right decision between compression socks and sleeves. While not technically socks, you can also get knee-high compression stockings in a design that combines a silhouette of a sock with the sheer material of pantyhose. If you’re looking for variety and have a wide range of outfits you want to match, compression socks will offer the most options when it comes to colors and styles. On the other hand, compression socks come in many more colors and patterns, from a bright solid pink to a fun argyle print to classic neutrals like navy and black. Compression leg sleeves offer a very sporty look. If it truly doesn’t matter whether you choose compression socks or sleeves, you could do worse than deciding on appearances. You should always check in with your doctor before wearing any level of compression, from mild to severe compression socks and everything in between. This is true not just for the style of compression garment but also for the level of compression itself. If your doctor has advised you to wear compression socks, then you should obviously defer to that advice when choosing a compression garment. However, if you’re not moving around a lot, the type of socks you wear is probably less critical, in which case you might want to consider compression socks instead. Thus, many athletes like compression calf sleeves because they can wear whatever socks they want with them and still get the benefits of compression in their calves. This is why athletes, especially distance runners, are exceptionally picky about their performance socks.Ĭhoosing the wrong socks could mean the difference between getting an injury and losing or winning the race. Wearing the wrong socks for the wrong activity can lead to chafing, blisters, open sores and all sorts of other foot problems. Generally speaking, a knee-high compression sock is going to offer the most coverage. However, if you’re experiencing a lot of swelling in your feet, then you’ll want to wear compression socks instead of sleeves so you get the full benefits of compression. For example, if shin splints are your main problem, compression leg sleeves might be just the ticket. Where you’re experiencing your symptoms will also influence which type of compression garment you select. Since athletes are pumping blood through physical activity, they’re often wearing compression for other benefits-such as reducing muscle soreness-and, thus, might not need or want their feet to be covered. That’s because people with more sedentary lives are usually wearing compression socks to boost their circulation, so they want the benefits of circulation in their feet as well as their calves. For example, runners and other athletes really love calf sleeves for sports, while compression socks are more appropriate for travel or people who sit all day in an office. Socks and sleeves are best suited to different activities. So, which should you pick? Here are five factors to consider when choosing between compression socks and sleeves: If you need compression for your lower body, you’ve probably narrowed it down to socks and leg sleeves. How to Choose Between Compression Socks and Sleeves Compression leg sleeves should not be confused with compression armsleeves, which are shaped similarly but intended for the upper body. Both compression socks and leg sleeves are available in a variety of compression levels, colors and patterns to suit many different patients. Compression calf sleeves reach from the ankle to the bottom of the knee they don’t cover the foot but do cover the whole calf. They are available in many lengths, including ankle, crew (mid-calf) and knee-high. What’s the Difference Between Compression Socks and Sleeves?Ĭompression socks cover the foot as well as some portion of the leg. Below, we explain the difference between compression socks and sleeves and describe five factors you should consider when choosing between them. You know that you need compression for your lower body, but as you begin your shopping journey, you’re confronted with a dilemma: Should you choose compression socks or leg sleeves? While these two products are very similar, they’re not quite the same. Using visual mapping, goal-setting, and creativity as tools for improving reading speed. In this online speed reading course, Jordan Harry teaches: On the contrary, I would argue that cramming so much value into such a short course is a real feat. Compared to some other options on this list, “ Speed Reading Mastery: Double your Reading Speed in 7 Days” on Skillshare is a short course at 46 minutes, but that doesn’t make it any less useful. Now, let us take a look at a course developed by the man himself. Jordan Harry, who held a passionate speech on the effects of speed reading practices on his life. I started this article with an introductory TedX talk by Mr. It is simply the best online resource for learning to speed read currently. Put simply – if one wishes to master the skill of speed reading, this is the course I would recommend. I could keep going on and on about this course, but I’ll stop here. Learn how to reprogram your brain for fast information absorption while also having a few laughs along the way.Jim Kwik is clearly passionate about the subject and it is clear that he has poured his heart and soul into the course. The videos are superb and this makes the class easy-to-follow. Lots of production and entertainment value.A well-constructed syllabus that is meant to be completed in daily 20-minute segments. You’ll likely double or triple your words per minute without sacrificing retention and comprehension. In-depth speed reading, comprehension, and reading techniques for both beginners and experts. So, what exactly makes this course a favorite of high-performers and beginners alike? Well, this online speed reading course has a number of benefits: These days, Kwik has taught the likes of Elon Musk, Richard Branson, Bill Clinton, and various Hollywood A-listers. And, after this realization, he devoted himself to discovering new, more optimal techniques of study. He concluded that the universally accepted methods of teaching in the education system are not suited for most people. Laying in a hospital bed, he eventually arrived at his personal eureka moment. Despite his struggles, Kwik refused to accept his “disabilities”. After having two severe head injuries, he was left with serious learning difficulties. Jim’s breakthrough came from a personal struggle. He is truly the best at teaching anything related to reading skills and improving comprehension. One particular reason why I love this class is that I’m a huge fan of Jim Kwik, the instructor of this course. It has all the qualities of a good speed reading course rolled into one, and I’m a big fan of Mindvalley’s online courses in general. Of all the courses I have taken over the years, “ Super Reading by Jim Kwik” on Mindvalley would be my pick for the best overall speed reading course. Harry is a vocal advocate of using speed reading for voracious yet effective learning. He set out to solve the problem by consulting with world-leading speed readers. Harry had a speech impediment that drastically affected his reading ability. Being able to read faster gives you the opportunity to read more within a shorter time frame, leaving you more time to spend with loved ones or on other activities.īefore we begin our list, allow me to share a TEDx talk by Jordan Harry. For example, a good speed reader can go over unpreferred parts of books without losing comprehension. My opinion on this is contradictory – in my opinion, slow reading is a waste of time and speed reading multiplies all the benefits of regular reading. People who do so often argue that they read for relaxation and that they do not need fast information absorption. Yet, when it comes to reading, most people do it at a snail’s pace. Speed reading has an enormous impact on your learning, memorization, and analytical capabilities. No matter your reading habits, reading will immensely benefit the capabilities of your brain. Whether you are reading a lengthy tome on the economy of 18th century England or a silly erotic novel, we are not here to judge. Most people are well aware of the vast benefits of reading. |
